Roxbury Science Department 7-12

  • Welcome! The Roxbury Science department is committed to educational excellence and rigor. We believe all children can learn the skills that adapts them to become productive citizens of the twenty-first century. Our students experience a rich curriculum that is driven and incorporates inquiry-based learning standards of the New Jersey Science Learning Standards (NJSLS) and the Next-Generation-Science-Standards (NGSS). We believe an education focused on the fundamental principles of science and literacy will provide students with the skills and understanding necessary to become our future leaders.

Roxbury students are exposed early on to our STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, & Mathematics) programs of studies. Our children explore many components of the STEAM content and phenomena, in 7th and 8th grade respectively at Eisenhower Middle School. This early curiosity and inquiry-based learning prepares our students for the multitude of science courses as they enter Roxbury High School. A variety of levels are offered at RHS including College Prep, Honors, AP, Dual-Enrollment, as well as many elective sciences. The principles of inquiry and engagement in hands-on labs will be one of many opportunities and skills that are developmentally appropriate to their age. ln fact, these scientific behaviors are the basis of constructing real-world knowledge and solutions. Our students will work in an environment that encourages them to take risks, think critically and collaboratively analyze data, make models, and question phenomena.

Our programs incorporate a variety of research-based instructional strategies and skills, to help all learners achieve. Finally, this scientific literacy aspect of education will require the involvement of all stakeholders in the Roxbury community including students, parents, teachers, and administrators.

Please explore our science page to find teacher, student, and parent resources as well as contact information for our department staff. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

    Respectfully,
