Kennedy’s Early Act Raises Funds with Dance-a-Thon
Roxbury, NJ (February 8, 2017) – Kennedy Elementary School’s Early Act Club held a Pajama Dance-a-Thon for the student body on Friday, February 3rd to raise money to redo the sensory garden at Kennedy School. The students raised almost $1,500 at this event.
Principal Eric Renfors, who served as DJ for the night said, “As far as our school goes, we have been trying to make our sensory garden a warm and inviting place for two or three years now but the task has been a little bit too big for us. The money raised will go a long way towards helping us to complete this task.”
Courtney Forsman club advisor and teacher at the school agreed with Renfors, “We will be able to get new plants and an outdoor instrument thanks to the funds raised tonight.”
The Dance-a-Thon also included a successful Bake Sale and Purple Pinkie station. Purple Pinkie is an organization that donates Polio vaccinations to children in countries where they would otherwise not be able to get them. The children get a purple stamp on their pinkie to show that they have been vaccinated. Students who donate get a purple stamp on their pinkie to show their support.
“We raised enough money at the Purple Pinkie station to get 70 children Polio vaccinations. Everyone had a great time!” according to Forsman.
Renfors shared Forsman view on the event and went on to say, “I have been blown away by the success of the first two Early Act events. Our toy drive before Christmas and now this Dance-a-Thon has been so incredibly successful and many students in our school and community have been and are going to be positively impacted by this group’s efforts! Kennedy students continue to prove what I’ve been saying to them for the past four years…even though they might be small they can make a big difference.”
Kennedy’s Early Act Club is a school-wide service club for the elementary students and is sponsored by the Roxbury Rotary Club.
Early Acts website states, “The mission and operation of Early Act are closely linked to the ideals of Rotary and provide the foundation and natural succession into the Interact Club at the high school.”
The site goes on to say, “Early Act provides young students the opportunity for gaining an increased awareness and knowledge of their community and the world. At a young age, all students can easily be encouraged to be caring and helpful. Their minds are open to recognize the dignity and worth of each individual which builds respect for others. It also engages students in character-building activities and prepares them for leadership roles to identify and carry out projects which benefit their school, local, and global communities.”
