    Dear Parents and Guardians:

Our school district has adopted a new strategy for lockdown procedures known as the ALICE plan. ALICE is an acronym for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate. The philosophy of ALICE is to use technology and information in a way so that staff and students can make informed decisions in a crisis. ALICE is a proactive approach that increases the chances of survival in a crisis.

On Monday, October 10th, our faculty and staff participated in a full-day training seminar on ALICE. An evening presentation on ALICE offered on October 13th was also well attended by parents and guardians. The PowerPoint shared that night is featured below on this page. Thank you to the Roxbury Police Department and to our school district’s Security Director, Mr. Jim Monaghan for preparing this research and for coordinating these training sessions for us. We appreciate their time and commitment to keeping our entire community safe and informed about the latest measures that can be taken to protect our students and staff.

As our district works towards fully implementing the ALICE protocols in each of our schools, we welcome your feedback. The rollout for these new procedures and protocols will be implemented in small increments throughout the year.

If you are interested in serving as a parent liaison on our school district’s Security Committee, we encourage you to send a message to my email address (lradulic@roxbury.org) or to Mr. Jim Monaghan’s (jmonaghan@roxbury.org).

Ultimately, ALICE is a mindset that will lead us to becoming more prepared, more informed, and more empowered in the event of a crisis. It is a program that many organizations have adopted, including ours.

    Sincerely,
    Loretta Radulic
